Exodus Bitcoin and Altcoin Wallet Review

Exodus is a multi-coin software wallet, with support for a decent range of cryptocurrencies. It makes managing your blockchain assets an easy task, even allowing you to exchange your assets using built-in ShapeShift support.

Exodus is one of the nicest looking cryptocurrency wallets I’ve come across. There are quite a few mobile apps with a nice UX, but not many options for desktop. I took Exodus for a spin and took notes of some of the things I liked.

Most importantly, Exodus has localisation support for Australian Dollars, and runs on Windows, Mac and Linux.

The first thing I noticed was the support for the most common cryptocurrencies. They don’t support every cryptocurrency coin or asset, but as stated on their website, they have a clear roadmap and list of criteria for assets they’re looking at supporting:

  • Asset availability on ShapeShift.
  • Asset has extensive documentation and readily available developer resources.
  • Asset has specialized API servers with load balancing setup for private use by Exodus. This is much easier if the API is based upon Bitpay Insight.
  • Market-cap and 24-hr volumes are considered. ‘Top 50’ or perceived potential to enter the ‘top 50’ assets by market cap. Community popularity, both internally in the Exodus community, and worldwide.

Note: You can check out the Exodus roadmap here.

Most of the popular cryptocurrency assets are supported, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dash and a few dozen more (and more added all the time).

Secondly, I liked the UX. It’s very polished. I don’t usually focus on things like skins or themes, but I couldn’t help myself checking them out and switching between a few.

There are a few nice touches throughout the application, the “Rescan blockchain” function being one of them.

For those who like to tweak and tinker, there’s a bunch of settings tucked away under the main menu: Exodus > Developer.

You can download Exodus here.
